Ssabagabo Ssekanyonyi Dominates Mukwenda Cup as Youth Talent Shines in Ssingo

Excitement and celebration marked the finals of the Mukwenda Cup competitions held at Ssingo Ssaza Stadium, where Ssabagabo Ssekanyonyi Sub-county emerged the overall winner, clinching both the football trophy and the prized bull.

The highly competitive tournament saw Ssabagabo Ssekanyonyi defeat Mumyuka Busimbi in a thrilling final, showcasing growing talent and enthusiasm among youth in the Ssingo County region.

Speaking at the event, Robert Sserwanga, the Minister in charge of Youth, Sports and Talent in the Buganda Kingdom, commended the high level of talent displayed throughout the tournament. He urged young people to remain committed to sports as a pathway to personal growth and opportunity.

“The talent we have witnessed here is impressive. I encourage our youth to nurture these skills because they can transform their lives and contribute to community development,” he said.

Sserwanga also praised the overall organization and competitiveness of the games, noting that the standards of sports within the kingdom continue to improve. He congratulated Ssabagabo Ssekanyonyi for their outstanding performance in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The Ssaza Chief of Ssingo, Deo Kagimu, applauded local leaders for mobilizing communities and encouraging youth participation in the tournament.

“These competitions are important because they bring young people together and help them discover and develop their talents,” Kagimu noted.

Mumyuka Busimbi finished as runners-up and received a cash prize of shs 500,000 while Mut XIII Kibiga secured third place. In other competitions, Mut VII Myanzi won the omweso (traditional board game) category and were awarded a trophy.

The Mukwenda Cup continues to serve as a vital platform for promoting sports, unity, and youth empowerment across Buganda, with leaders emphasizing its role in nurturing future talent and strengthening community ties.
